May 16, 1846

Gold is discovered by Claude Chana in the Auburn area.
April 1849
New mining camp in area, named after Auburn, New York.
1850
Population grew to around 1,500 people.
1853
Auburn, CA became the county seat of Sutter County.
1855
Jail next to courthouse burned down.
May 13, 1865
Central Pacific Railroad completed line to Auburn, CA.
May 2, 1888
Auburn, CA incorporated for second time.
1898
Courthouse (now museum) completed.
